Study visit for deinstitutionalization after Sweden model
From 5th to 9th of September 2016, the European Network for Independent Living – ENIL organized a study visit about the deinstitutionalization in Stockholm, Sweden. The purpose of the visit was to present the steps taken by Sweden to close institutional care for people with disabilities – a process that ended 16 years ago on 01.01.2000. Dear friends and associates, on the occasion of May 5th – European Independent Living Day, the Center for Independent Living invites you to the exhibition organized by us. It is the result of four months of artistic communication between people with and without disabilities, of different generations, who painted with their fingers and oil paints. They shared their views, tastes and fantasies under the project “Art at the tip of the finger”, funded by the Sofia Culture Program of Sofia Municipality 2016.

Over the last 10 months, a team of analysts from the Center for Independent Living has been researching Bulgarian practices in 3 main topics for social inclusion for people with disabilities, namely the quality of assistance services, benefits and technical aids, as well as the process of deinstitutionalization.

On April 13th at 10 am at the Hotel Accord will be held three thematic meetings with the following topics and order:
- from 10:00 to 14:00 o’clock in the large conference hall. The topic is Personal assistance for disabled people
- from 10:00 to 14:00 o’clock in the small hall (unfortunately inaccessible for disabled people). The theme is The deinstitutionalisation in Bulgaria
- from 15:00 to 18:00 o’clock in the large conference hall. The theme is Benefits for disabled people.
The meetings are organized by CIL, the project “Free choice or free of choice”- advocacy of human rights of disabled people”, funded under the program for support of NGOs in Bulgaria under the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area.
Meetings are open and anyone wishing to attend feel invited.
To Make Friends with Love
On February 14th we went to Lukovit where we organized a celebration of St. Valentine’s day – To make friends with love, along with the young people from the community. We talked about love and flirting, played interesting games and sang songs. For our pleasant and cheerful mood much helped the hostess of the event Yva Doichinova and the famous rocker Vasco the Patch who is our dear friend.

In it are busted all myths associated with the independent living and the disability, which persist in Europe and here as well. Center for Independent Living assessed the value and the usefulness of the book, as well as the need for such accurate reading nowadays in Bulgaria. In the occasion of the International Day of Disabled Persons (Dec ,3rd), we offer to the attention of our readers the Mythbuster translated into Bulgarian. We wish you a pleasant time with the interesting and beautifully illustrated edition of ENIL and CIL.
New Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria And Old Bill for Personal Assistance of People With Disabilities
Today, at 11:00 a.m. we had a meeting with the new Ombudsman of the Republic of Bulgaria – Mrs. Maya Manolova. At the meeting we provided her with the bill for personal assistance, which has been made by our team of experts more than five years ago and presented in 2009 without any result to the then Chairman of the Parliament – Mrs. Tsetska Tsacheva. Mrs. Manolova received the bill and pledged to give most of her energy to discuss it in the Parliament. We left the meeting with moderate expectations, since unfortunately, we know very well Bulgarian politicians.
A Meething With Georgi Kadiev, Candidate for Mayor Of Sofia
Today, at 1:00 p.m. at the office of the CIL was held a meeting with one of the candidates for mayor of Sofia, Mr. Kadiev. We discussed the problems with the accessibility of the environment, with transport – urban, specialized and metro, with Personal Assistant’s regulation and with the mechanism for the election of the deputy mayors.
